A lifelong educator and community organizer, Michael West has done economic advocacy and development work in the urban communities of Brooklyn, New York, since 1982. His work as small business director for Brooklyn United for Innovative Local Development (B.U.I.L.D.) allowed him to contribute to the development of the groundbreaking Atlantic Yards Community Benefits Agreement. Mr. West also developed and administered B.U.I.L.D.’s minority contractor referral system which identified and assisted contractors in qualifying for work on the construction of the Atlantic Yards project. Mr. West received an Associate Degree from the College of Staten Island in 1979 and a B.A. in journalism (with a public relations concentration) from New York University in 1981. He received a Master of Science in Education from Bank Street College of Education in 1995.
